- Every City star rated
Manchester City have defeated Brentford in the Premier League after goals from Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland.
Let’s take a look at how each of Pep Guardiola’s players got on over the course of the 90 minutes.
Man City player ratings
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6
Almost cost his team after eight minutes when he missed the ball, which was swung in from a set piece. The Italian did make a few saves later on though.
Matheus Nunes – 7.5
Made a vital challenge on Kevin Schade to prevent the Brentford forward having a one-one chance against Donnarumma. Later on, the right back caused his team a brief scare after potentially committing a foul inside the box. However, he was deemed by VAR to have produced a good piece of defending.
Nathan Ake – 6.5
Made some good recoveries, winning free kicks to relieve pressure on a couple of occasions.
Marc Guehi – 6.5
Limited the power of an Igor Thiago strike and managed to avoid any errors after a difficult night on Monday.
Nico O’Reilly – 5.5
The Englishman lost more ground duels than he won, and picked up a booking for a foul which followed a misplaced pass. On the whole, it was an underwhelming display from O’Reilly.
Bernardo Silva – 6
Hit a couple of very poor long shots in the first half which were nowhere near being on target. On top of this, he picked up a needless booking for lashing out at Nathan Collins.
Tijjani Reijnders – 5
Took four shots, which was more than any other player. However, the Dutchman failed to land any on target. He was subbed just shy of the hour-mark.
Antoine Semenyo – 5
Played a good cross to Haaland after 25 minutes, which the Norwegian headed over the bar. Other than this, there were no notable contributions from the 26-year-old, who does not appear to suit the right wing role at all.
Rayan Cherki – 4.5
Heavily marked by Brentford’s defenders, making it hard for him to create chances through the middle. This led to the Frenchman being dispossessed on quite a few occasions. Cherki seems to be lacking freedom playing in a central role, which is limiting his attacking threat.
Jeremy Doku – 9
Landed Man City’s first shot on target inside three minutes after cutting inside. Later in the first half, the Belgian beat his defender and cut a ball back which allowed Haaland to land a shot on target. He continued to be the main source of City’s creativity throughout the opening 45 minutes. Then came the 60th minute, when Doku scored yet another curled effort into the top corner.
Erling Haaland – 7.5
Failed to have a touch inside the first 19 minutes, then had a chance which was headed over the bar. The striker had a few opportunities to find the net, but he was not clinical enough. Despite this, he did what he so often does and scored for a fourth consecutive league match, with a close range backheel. Haaland also got an assist, setting up Marmoush near the end of the game.
Substitutes
Phil Foden – 6.5
Managed to get a shot on target a few minutes after entering the pitch. He had an even better shot on goal with eight minutes left to play, but the goalkeeper did his job. A bright cameo from Foden.
Omar Marmoush – 7.5
Received 30 minutes of game time after coming off the bench while the score was still 0-0. The Egyptian did not have much of the ball, but he scored a lovely goal in stoppage time, finding the bottom left corner at a tricky angle.
Savinho – N/A
Replaced Doku in the dying stages.
