- Man City dropped points against Everton
- Handed Arsenal golden opportunity
- Emmanuel Adebayor still believes in Citizens
Manchester City have left the Premier League title in Arsenal’s hands, but Emmanuel Adebayor is not ruling out a late comeback from his former club.
The Premier League table has been weighted in Arsenal’s favour for most of the season. However, Manchester City finally turned things around with victories over the Gunners and Burnley respectively.
Despite this, Arsenal retook their lead and are now five points clear of City, after Pep Guardiola’s team drew 3-3 with Everton on Monday night.
As a result, Arsenal are now strong favourites to win the Premier League, especially since they have an easier run-in.
Emmanuel Adebayor predicts Man City to launch comeback
Regardless of how things look on paper, ex-Arsenal and Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still backing the Sky Blues to win the Premier League.
Interestingly though, the man from Togo has revealed that he wants Arsenal to lift the trophy, despite signing for Tottenham just three years after he left the Emirates.
“If you ask me today, I’ll still tell you I think Man City will win [the Premier League],” Adebayor told talkSPORT.
“But I’d like Arsenal to win it. They were fighting for it even when I was there. This year, they’re doing quite well. The good thing is defensively, they’re very good. But now, they have to win the last three games.
“Man City dropping points against Everton, they’ll come back stronger. They’ll manage with their manager, the excellent team they have, they’ll do everything possible to win the last three games and wait for Arsenal to drop points so they can be champions,” he continued.
“But trust me, it’s not going to be easy for both. For the first time, I wish Arsenal wins it because they’ve been working towards this for so long.”
Man City have to rely on Arsenal dropping points
In order for the Citizens to win the Premier League, Arsenal must fail to collect at least two points from their three remaining fixtures.
Unfortunately, all their upcoming opponents are positioned in the bottom six of the table, making this somewhat unlikely.
The league leaders have rediscovered their rhythm, and knocked Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League this week.
Therefore, it will take a big performance from either West Ham, Burnley or Crystal Palace to knock them off balance.
Man City have no room for errors
Even if Arsenal do drop points in one of their remaining matches, the title will still be in their hands if City also slip up.
Guardiola’s men have an additional fixture to fulfil, and their final two games of the season are against the teams sixth and fifth in the Premier League table respectively.
It is therefore essential that Man City keep the pressure on with constant victories, beginning this Saturday against Brentford.
