- Simon Jordan has criticised City’s collapse
- Everton caused problems after half-time
- Arsenal’s title form was also praised
Simon Jordan has delivered a strong verdict on Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s side dropped points against Everton.
Man City were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday night. The Sky Blues lost control in the second half despite scoring the first goal of the game.
The Citizens had taken a lead through Jeremy Doku’s curler in the 43rd minute. However, Everton responded after the break and moved into a 3-1 lead.
Erling Haaland pulled one back shortly after the Toffees’ third goal. Doku then landed the final strike of the game to rescue a point for the visitors.
Simon Jordan says Man City ‘imploded’ against Everton
Speaking to talkSPORT, Simon Jordan claimed that City lost control after Everton increased the intensity in the second half.
However, the most surprising part for Jordan was Everton giving in to the pressure like Man City. The Toffees could’ve enjoyed three points at home but ended up sharing the spoils.
“They imploded, and they got the cut amongst them, and Everton got amongst them with their fan base and obviously with the players. Because the players rattled into Everton were at it in the second half,” Jordan said.
“It was remarkable that Everton let them back in the game because they were dead, and Everton wilted under the pressure and City got themselves back in the game.”
Fighting back from 3-1 down shows character, but the Carabao Cup winners still dropped two crucial points. Likewise, with the quality of players City have, they shouldn’t be riding on stoppage time winners to save the day at this stage of the competition.
Simon Jordan praises Arsenal after Man City setback
The former Crystal Palace chairman also praised Arsenal for their recent performance against Fulham. The Gunners won 3-0 at the Emirates and now stand five points clear of City.
Jordan also believed that the Gunners’ display carried the feel of a side ready to push on in the title race. With Bukayo Saka back in the squad, Mikel Arteta will be hoping to win the league with Arsenal.
“But Arsenal’s performance on the weekend had the hallmark of champions. That performance against Fulham, they smashed Fulham and they sent a message out that either the handbrake was off, the attitude of the players was different, the manager’s attitude was different,” Jordan said.
Arsenal had 18 shots and nine shots on target against the Cottagers. They also created six big chances at the Emirates on Saturday.
Now, Arteta’s men only have to deal with the bottom quarter of the table. This also gives them another advantage, as they will be dealing with way weaker teams than City.
Man City must respond after costly Everton draw
The draw leaves Guardiola’s men with no margin for error in their remaining Premier League clashes. City will be facing two sides competing for a spot in Europe next season.
And before these two games, they face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on the 16th of May. The Carabao Cup winners will play three games in seven days before their last game against Aston Villa.
They will get a five-day rest before welcoming the Lions at the Etihad, but mid-month will be crucial to decide on a possible treble.
City can still turn this around by winning their next game against Brentford on the 9th of May. This will put pressure on Arsenal, who play West Ham United the next day.
Man City should keep winning from here on out and pushing the Gunners on the edge. This is the only way they can make Arteta’s side slip and win the title.
