- Rodri and Nico ranked Spanish Premier League players
- David Silva was instantly named a legend
- Several former Man City players were discussed
Rodri and Nico Gonzalez have ranked some of the best Spanish players to have played in the Premier League, with one Man City icon receiving an instant verdict.
Manchester City have had several Spanish players over the years, but none has had an impact as big as David Silva.
The midfielder spent a decade at the Etihad, winning every trophy possible, before moving to Real Sociedad in 2020. The Spaniard eventually hung up his boots in 2023.
Likewise, the next generation of Spaniards is already leading the club. Rodri and Nico Gonzalez are the only Spanish players at City at the moment, and their roles are indispensable.
Nevertheless, the midfield duo was asked to rank Spanish Premier League players, and they didn’t hesitate when asked about David Silva.
Rodri and Nico Gonzalez call David Silva a legend
Speaking on Viaplay’s Premier Sunday broadcast, Rodri immediately ranked Silva as a legend. The duo was asked to rank players as legends, greats or a joy to watch.
Nico didn’t disagree, validating his teammate’s choice. Out of the ten players they were asked to rank, the City duo placed seven in the legend tier and three in the great one.
David de Gea, Cesc Fabregas, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Silva, Juan Mata, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso made the legends list.
However, Santi Cazorla, Pedro Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara were placed in the greats list.
Nico Gonzalez joked about his own ranking
Serving as a deputy to Rodri, it is understandable that Nico is still humble regarding his position at the Etihad.
However, at 24, the midfielder has a long way to go and has the potential to be one of the league’s greats.
Nevertheless, after ranking seven players straight into the legend tier, Rodri joked about the game being easy.
Gonzalez echoed his teammates’ claims with, “If you say me, okay we go down.”
David Silva remains a Man City legend
David Silva was crucial in City’s rise under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola. During his time at the Etihad, the midfielder won four Premier League titles.
The Spaniard also won two FA Cups and five Carabao Cups with the Sky Blues. Likewise, the midfielder changed the technical quality expected at Man City.
His vision, control and the ability to dictate the game made him almost irreplaceable after his departure. This also reflects Rodri’s and Nico’s view of the Spaniard as he’s one of the best midfielders to have played in the English top-flight.
