Chris Sutton predicts Everton to make things ‘difficult’ for Manchester City

Ahead of the upcoming set of Premier League fixtures, Chris Sutton predicted who will come out on top between Manchester City and Everton.

Considering Arsenal could extend their lead to six points at the top of the table after having beaten Newcastle United already, Pep Guardiola’s men virtually have to get over the line on Monday.

Manchester City’s latest win against Southampton saw Guardiola make nine changes to the starting XI that featured against Burnley, which means the Sky Blues’ key players will be rested ahead of the clash.

Ultimately, the fact that City won ugly against Burnley also shows that they have the mentality to get over the line in the hard-fought fixtures that typify the title run-in.

Chris Sutton predicts Man City to beat Everton

Chris Sutton has revealed that he expects the visitors to be put to the test at the Hill Dickinson Stadium because Everton could be a tough team to break down.

He told BBC Sport: “Manchester City have got some momentum, and come into this game off the back of six straight wins in all competitions. Will they keep that good form up, though?

“The Hill Dickinson has not been a fortress for Everton this season but I can see them making it difficult for City, and being hard to break down.”

However, Chris Sutton expects Manchester City to win 2-1 against Everton, purely on the strength of their attack, saying: “It wouldn’t surprise me if Everton picked up a point but with City’s front four of Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo in such good form, I am going to say they will find a way to win it.”

Everton’s record in the Premier League at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

In fairness to Sutton, David Moyes’ side have been solid at home this campaign.

Out of 17 games in the Premier League this campaign, Everton have won six, drawn four and lost seven.

However, Manchester City’s dressing room must be bullish heading into every game, having trounced the likes of Arsenal twice, Liverpool and Chelsea recently among others.

Erling Haaland has a great record against Everton

Erling Haaland is in red-hot form, having scored five goals in his last four starts in all competitions.

Worryingly for Everton, he has an excellent record against them.

  • Appearances: Five
  • Goals: Six
  • Assists: 0

Haaland will also be desperate to lead City to the title and sealing the race for the Golden Boot, and taking such factors into account, it is hard not to see him impacting proceedings.

Only time will tell whether the Norwegian gets on the scoresheet and spearheads Manchester City to an all-important victory.
