- Former goalkeeper picks City side
- Some huge names left out
- Guardiola-era stars dominate selection
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Scott Carson has revealed the players he would include in his dream five-a-side team from his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Having spent several years inside Pep Guardiola’s squad, Scott Carson played alongside some of the best players in the club’s history.
However, the former goalkeeper’s contract with the Citizens expired in 2025. Four months later, he decided to retire from professional football.
Following his retirement, he’s made multiple appearances in the media and on podcasts, where Carson usually tells tales from his time at the Etihad.
Likewise, the former goalkeeper was a guest on The Good, The Bad and the Football, where he shared his dream Man City five-a-side team.
Scott Carson selects technical Man City stars in dream line-up
While on the GBF podcast, Nicky Butt asked Carson about his five-a-side team from his time at Manchester City.
The first player that came to Carson’s mind was Joao Cancelo. He then went on to choose Ruben Dias, pointing towards the defender’s mentality and competitiveness.
The Iberian duo, David Silva and Bernardo Silva, also made the cut for Carson’s five-a-side team as the Englishman is still wowed by the duo’s ability to run games despite lacking quickness or strength.
In the front, the former goalkeeper chose Kevin De Bruyne and believed that a pure forward wasn’t necessary.
Several legendary City forwards miss out
Despite playing alongside some of the best attackers at the Etihad, Carson overlooked several major names in his selection.
The former goalkeeper favoured technicality over firepower, with almost every player in his selection hailing from countries with technical football traditions.
Nevertheless, his selection is justified as intelligence and composure dominate over chaos on a small 5-a-side football pitch.
Pep Guardiola’s influence can be seen in Carson’s selection
Likewise, Carson’s five-a-side Man City dream team is probably closer to what Guardiola himself would select.
All of them reflect the Catalan manager’s philosophy, as they all thrived under the Man City gaffer. Carson’s dream team lacks a traditional striker to avoid volume for accuracy.
Every outfield player in the team is comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and keeping possession in crowded areas.
Even the inclusion of defenders like Cancelo and Dias reinforces Guardiola’s demand for distribution ability from every position on the pitch.
