Carl Walker has just been named as Manchester City’s new Head of Academy scouting and recruitment, so let’s take a look at what has brought him to this point in his career.

Manchester City have made a new appointment in order to ensure their academy continues to grow and develop top class talents.

Carl Walker broke the news regarding his new role as the head of scouting and recruitment at City’s academy, with a LinkedIn post.

Later on, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Thomas Krucken and Sam Fagbemi will continue to support the process of signing academy talents and providing pathways to the senior game.

Who is Carl Walker?

With six years and four months of experience working for the City Football Group, Walker’s appointment is not surprising.

He began his time at the club in January 2020, operating as the Southern Scout Lead. This meant it was the Londoner’s job to identify prospects in the southern areas of the country that might be of interest to Man City.

Since then, Walker has held a variety of similar positions and he most recently served as the club’s UK Youth Scouting and Recruitment Lead.

Walker’s experience before Man City

In 2008, Walker enrolled at Havering College, where he achieved a distinction studying a BTEC in sport and fitness.

Six years after finishing this course, the City employee began his FA qualification in talent identification, as well as leadership and management.

Walker’s first role was as a Community Coach at Leyton Orient, and after this he held roles at Brentford and West Ham.

Walker is hungry to improve Man City’s academy

Despite Walker having spent almost as long at Man City as he did at West Ham, whom he spent seven years working for, he is not losing any motivation.

In fact, the talent-spotting expert is hungrier than ever to ensure the Citizens’ academy set-up maintains its world class status.

Writing on LinkedIn, he posted: “I’m delighted to share that I’ve accepted the role of Head of Academy Scouting & Recruitment at Manchester City.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that have brought me to this point, and for the challenges, lessons, and support along the way.

“The hunger and ambition to achieve more remains the same.”
