  • Nico O’Reilly says his team will build momentum from the victory
  • He thinks Arsenal should be worried about their next trip to the Etihad Stadium

Nico O’Reilly has delivered a determined message about the Premier League title race after his brilliant performance against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

Manchester City already have one trophy in their cabinet this season, but they are not content to stop there.

Nico O’Reilly inspired a victory which has already made this campaign a bigger success than the previous one, but Man City are a club who always demand more.

Arsenal are the team who currently lead the way in the Premier League, but the Citizens have not given up hope on the title just yet.

This has prompted O’Reilly to offer his verdict on what remains of the season, with the 21-year-old keen to remind Arsenal that his team are not going away.

Nico O’Reilly claims Man City smell blood in the Premier League title race

With Man City claiming a decisive victory over Arsenal last Sunday, O’Reilly believes this will help them to keep going in the Premier League, according to Mirror

He is also very much aware of the fact that the Gunners still have to play at the Etihad Stadium, providing an opportunity to close the nine-point gap which currently separates the teams.

When asked if City could smell blood, O’Reilly said: “Yeah 100 per cent. The blood never went – we’ve always smelt blood.

“We’re confident in ourselves, we know we can do it, they’ve got to come to our place which is a tough place to come to as everyone has seen this season.

“So we do smell blood and we’ve got to keep going. It does a lot for us, build momentum and just push on now.

Obviously it’s a big blow for them [Arsenal]. They were going for everything, just as we were.”

Man City will not be helped by the international break

With the pause button having been pressed on club football, there is a risk of Man City losing momentum, while Arsenal have time to recover from their Carabao Cup defeat.

On top of this, a number of Mikel Arteta’s players have withdrawn from international duty, while Man City have lots of players representing their countries.

This could end up being a blow to City’s title hopes, with potential injuries during the break. Pep Guardiola will just have to hope this will not be the case.
