Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes fade away after West Ham draw

Manchester City have dropped points in the Premier League for a second successive game after failing to find the answers required to beat West Ham.

Domination and control are all well and good, but that has to be converted into goals, which was not the case for Manchester City at the London Stadium.

Once again, the Sky Blues have failed to record a victory in the Premier League, but this was not due to a lack of chances.

Man City came close to finding a winner so many times as the clock ticked on, but they were unable to create that special moment of magic

Man City were on top in the first half

The game plan of both teams was quite clear from the start, with Man City having all of the possession, while West Ham remained deep.

City’s creativity was once again lacking and there were not really any players who looked likely to craft an opportunity.

However, Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark with a delightful chip when Mads Hermansen strayed from his line.

This lead only lasted four minutes, as Konstantinos Mavropanos scored from a corner kick when Gialuigi Donnarumma failed to punch the ball clear.

Man City kept pushing as the game progressed

While Man City did very little in the opening 45 minutes, they did much better in the second half, recording 1.75xG and taking 18 shots.

Hermansen made some important saves to keep his team’s hopes of a result alive, but the visitors should have put the game to bed.

Even with Pep Guardiola turning to his bench and bringing on four attacking-minded players, his team were unable to find a way past a West Ham team who gave everything on the night.

The Premier League title race might be over for Man City

Mathematically, Man City still have a chance to win the Premier League, but the reality is that Arsenal are in a prime position to clinch the title.

The Gunners have consistently picked up three points, even when the scoreline has been close. Even this evening, they delivere a couple of vital moments right near the end against Everton.

That is what champions do and unfortunately, City have not been able to deliver this over the past couple of weeks.

By the end of Tuesday night, there is now a real chance that Man City will only really be able to win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
