Opta Supercomputer rates Manchester City’s chances of defeating Real Madrid in Champions League

The Opta Supercomputer has predicted which team will get the win as Manchester City head to the Bernabeu for a Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid.

Manchester City are in Madrid with hopes of bringing a winning result back to the Etihad Stadium next week.

There is bound to be plenty of action as both teams have scored in Real Madrid’s previous six home games against Man City.

In fact, eight of the past 10 matches between the teams have seen three or more goals, which indicates this will be another fixture which does not disappoint.

Opta Supercomputer predicts Manchester City to defeat Real Madrid

While Man City did get the better of Real Madrid in the league phase, winning in the Spanish capital for a second time this season will not be easy.

However, the Opta Supercomputer has given the Sky Blues a 45 per cent of victory, while Los Blancos only have a 28 per cent of success.

This is higher than the 42 per cent likelihood of a triumph which the Supercomputer gave Man City to beat Newcastle last weekend, an FA Cup tie which they won.

Although a draw is considered less likely, there is still a one in four chance that nothing will separate the teams.

Man City have a mixed away record in the Champions League

Pep Guardiola’s team have already beaten Real Madrid away from home this season, but their last European outing resulted in a 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt.

This has been Man City’s only Champions League away defeat of the season and they also won in Spain after travelling to Villarreal last October.

City’s other match on the road ended in a 2-2 draw against AS Monaco, so their away record overall is not bad, but certainly far from perfect.

Despite this, the team will have taken a lot of encouragement from their two victories in Spain and tonight is all about getting a third.
