Eddie Howe tells Newcastle what they must do to beat Manchester City in FA Cup

Newcastle have lost three of their four meetings with Manchester City this season and Eddie Howe has called on his team to do two things in order to seal a victory this time around.

The FA Cup fifth round stage is almost upon us and Manchester City will make the trip to St James’ Park for the third time this season.

Pep Guardiola’s men were defeated in the north east on their first visit this season, but took revenge on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup a couple of months ago.

With each team winning once at the iconic ground, the FA Cup fifth round tie will be the ultimate decider and the victor will also earn a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Eddie Howe calls on Newcastle to do two things against Manchester City

Newcastle will be tired of drawing Man City in cup competitions, especially since the Sky Blues have bossed their previous clashes more often than not.

However, Eddie Howe believes his team could claim a victory if they defend well and do enough to get their fans feeling up for the occasion.

He said: “The games against Manchester City have been close; we have had chances against them. Defensively we need to be watertight, they are a difficult team to pin down.

“It will be a proper FA Cup tie, and end-to-end game, we will need to get the crowd involved.”

Man City must bounce back from Nottingham Forest draw

Wednesday was a heavy blow for Manchester City, but now is the time to regroup and get back to winning ways.

City have already caused Newcastle all sorts of problems this season and another win is required this weekend.

One more victory and a trip to Wembley Stadium is within touching distance, so the visiting team should have all the motivation they need.
