Pep Guardiola snubs North London derby for Serie C clash after important Manchester City victory

Pep Guardiola had a busy weekend after flying out to Italy following Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Manchester City had plenty of days to prepare for Newcastle’s visit to the Etihad Stadium and this proved beneficial, with the hosts securing a much-needed victory.

Nico O’Reilly was Man City’s star player as the 20-year-old found the net twice in the first half, which ultimately went on to earn his team three points.

City now have another week before their next Premier League fixture, so Pep Guardiola has taken the opportunity to reunite with his former club.

Pep Guardiola spotted at Brescia match

Many would have expected Pep Guardiola to be keeping a close eye on Arsenal’s weekend clash against Tottenham, but this was not the case.

la Repubblica have reported that the Man City boss was actually in the stands at his former club Union Brescia, who play in the third tier of Italian football.

Guardiola attended Brescia’s match against Pro Patria as a birthday present for manager Edoardo Piovani and he sat alongside ex-Premier League midfielder Birkir Bjarnason. This was the first time Guardiola has visited the Rigamonti Stadium in 15 years.

Guardiola only spent a short time at Brescia

Although Guardiola spent most of his playing career at Barcelona, Brescia clearly still holds a special place in his heart.

The manager played there during the 2001/02 season and returned in 2003 for another brief spell after an unsuccessful period at AS Roma.

This shows that even if a player’s time at a club is short, impressions can be made which last a lifetime.
