Manchester City have the opportunity to cement their current position in the Premier League table after a Saturday afternoon result which will bring joy to the club’s dressing room.
The main focus of the Premier League title race has been on Arsenal and Manchester City, but Aston Villa have done a good job remaining on their tails.
However, Unai Emery’s side have recorded some poor results since the turn of the calendar year, including home defeats in the Premier League to both Everton and Brentford.
This poor run continued on Saturday afternoon and it could well see their chances of a league title squashed, despite having 11 games left to play.
Aston Villa have been unable to defeat Leeds United
Aston Villa were tasked with taking on Leeds United, a team who are fighting relegation, yet are in good form.
The visitors to Villa Park on Saturday afternoon opened the scoring in the first half through Anton Stach and led for most of the game.
Despite this, Aston Villa managed to rescue a point with just minutes remaining, thanks to super sub Tammy Abraham.
One point is better than nothing, but it means Manchester City will move five points above the third place team if they are successful in defeating Newcastle.
Manchester City are in a two-horse race for the Premier League title
Villa’s failure to win today has ultimately handed Man City and Arsenal a chance to put them out of contention for the league title.
However, this is dependent on City continuing to take every point on offer, starting with their Saturday night meeting with Newcastle.
Win that and Villa are just a blur in the distance, meaning Arsenal are the only team who can stop Pep Guardiola lifting the Premier League trophy for a seventh time.
