Man City target Vrsaljko wants to leave Atletico Madrid

Manchester City and Napoli target Sime Vrsaljko has asked to leave Atletico Madrid according to Talksport.

The defender is the subject of strong interest from many top teams ahead of the January transfer window following a very successful spell in Spain. The defender is pushing for a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and the Croatian international is yet to receive any offers for his services.

Napoli and Man City are in the market for a full-back and Vrsaljko could be the perfect fit for both sides. Man City will need more depth in their defence following the injury of Benjamin Mendy, whilst Napoli don’t have the best defence, meaning they will need to focus on improving that area if they want to win the Serie A.

Atletico Madrid have dismissed approaches for Vrsaljko so far but now, according to Marca, he has asked to leave the club.

The 25-year old is said to have had face-to-face talks with an official at Atletico Madrid and expressed his hunger for a new challenge. Vrsaljko has only been at Madrid for eighteen months but he has had to battle for the full-back spot with Juanfran.

The Croatian international has only played five times for Madrid this season and started two league fixtures, with Juanfran being the much preferred option in the right-back role. It is no surprise to see that the former Sassuolo man is looking elsewhere to find a team that will start him on a regular basis.
