Barcelona linked with surprise move for Bernardo Silva

Manchester City star Bernardo Silva is already being linked with a move away from the club.

According to a report from Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, the City winger is a target for Barcelona, who fear they will be priced out of a move for Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

The Catalan giants have long been chasing Coutinho and were stifled by the Reds in their attempts to sign him in the summer. Barca made bids in excess of £100 million but Liverpool remained keen to keep hold of their prized asset.

Although it looks likely that Ernesto Valverde’s men will return for Coutinho in the January transfer window, Diario Gol reports that alternatives are being weighed up. This includes Bernardo Silva.

The Portugal international joined Pep Guardiola’s side only months ago in the summer window for a fee reported to be worth £43 million. However, he has since found himself struggling for game time on a consistent basis.

The form of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling has made things difficult for Silva, who possesses an undeniably huge amount of ability. Although the 23-year-old has shown glimmers of quality and is admired by Guardiola, he will surely be growing frustrated with the shortage of opportunities.

However, City will undoubtedly be keen to keep hold of Silva, who boasts huge quality and potential.
