Mendy ruptures anterior cruciate ligament

Manchester City have today confirmed that left-back Benjamin Mendy has suffered a serious knee injury.

The club statement makes for bad reading for City fans, as the France international has officially been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Mendy picked up the injury during City’s rampant win over Crystal Palace on the weekend. The Frenchman was hauled off in the Citizens’ 5-0 win, and is now set for a prolonged period on the sidelines.

The former Monaco man will undergo surgery on his knee out in Barcelona with medical specialists known to Pep Guardiola on Friday. Further, more detailed examinations will take place out in Spain, and the extent of Mendy’s injury is set to be declared.

Mendy joined City for a monumental fee that exceeded the £50 million mark in the summer, and had enjoyed a positive start to life at the Etihad Stadium.
