Manchester City are keen to offer Yaya Toure a new contract at the club, but only if he accepts a pay cut.
According to a report from the Telegraph this evening, the Sky Blues are happy to keep hold of the Ivorian midfielder but will make it clear to him that he must reduce his wages if he is to remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond this season.
Toure’s deal at the club expires this summer and with just two games remaining for City in the 2016/17 campaign, it’s looking as though he’s headed for the exit door.
The 34-year-old is stated to be earning a quite staggering sum of £210,000 per week, so it’s understandable why City are keen to lower his wage if he is to extend his stay by just another year.
If the former Barcelona man does opt to leave Pep Guardiola’s side, he’ll surely have no shortage of potential suitors this summer.
