Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Vincent Kompany had not suffered another serious injury after he failed to make the squad for the team’s 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.
Kompany has been sidelined with a list of injuries in recent years which has prevented the Belgian international appearing frequently for his club side.
As reported by Sky Sports, Guardiola speaking after the match reported that the defender had suffered a setback in training, commenting: “Two days ago he felt something in his leg. It is not a big, big issue but today he was not able to play.”
However, it was hoped Kompany would play at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday but he did not train with his team-mates on Friday and did not travel to Huddersfield.
Kompany has made one appearance for Manchester outfit in 2017 in the FA Cup win over Crystal Palace, one of six matches in which he has appeared this season.
Kompany has been plagued by injuries in recent times and following today’s draw with Huddersfield, an FA Cup replay adds to a busy schedule for Guardiola’s side who host Monaco on Tuesday in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 match.
