Guardiola keen to sign Messi for £100 million

He is seen as arguably the greatest player on the planet and the ultimate club man but, according to Daily Mirror, Lionel Messi could be heading out of the exit door at Barcelona this summer as Manchester City prepare a £100 million bid to sign the Argentinian.

Issues remain between Messi and Barcelona, with the striker stalling over signing a new contract with the Spanish giants which only has a year and a half to go.

To compound this, Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain has led to continued calls about the future of Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and what the future holds for the club’s most established star as Barcelona’s stranglehold over La Liga and the Champions League looks to have relented in recent months with the club recognising that change must happen at the Nou Camp.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to bring Messi to the Etihad Stadium from his time as manager of Barcelona and is willing to break the world record for the most expensive transfer signing of all time in order to get his man with City also able to give Messi his continued wages of £20 million per year.

Messi is nearly 30 years old with the paper reporting that Spanish media suggest the Barcelona star is keen to change his surroundings.
