Etihad Stadium evacuated ahead of Barcelona game

The Etihad Stadium was briefly evacuated ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League game against Barcelona.

All staff, media members and UEFA officials were ordered to leave the stadium and were told to congregate outside.

However, after ten minutes or so, everybody was allowed back inside.

The reason for the brief evacuation is still unknown at this time.

The scenes of a football ground getting evacuated in Manchester automatically led to comparisons of the final game of last season when Old Trafford was evacuated for Manchester United’s game with Bournemouth after a suspect package was found.

The item turned out to be a fake device which had been used as part of a training exercise earlier in the week.
