Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has ruled out any chance of Kevin de Bruyne featuring in tomorrow night’s EFL Cup clash with rivals Manchester United.
The Belgian was forced off in City’s 1-1 draw with Southampton after sustaining a knock to the calf in the first half and is now a definite no for Wednesday night’s game.
However, there is a chance he could make it back in time for the weekend fixture against West Brom but Guardiola has put doubt even that.
“Kevin, no way, he cannot play, ” Guardiola confirmed.
“Hopefully West Brom but he is even a doubt for the weekend.”
Guardiola also doesn’t think Pablo Zabaleta is able to play after the Argentine is still in recovery from his recent foot problem.
With Bacary Sagna joining him on the injury table, the Man City boss will be left without a senior right-back once again.
Captain Vincent Kompany, who made his first league start since April on Sunday, looks to be back fit and healthy – but Guardiola wants to see how he reacts to today’s training session before declaring him fit for the game with United.
“Vincent I think he can but I don’t know today, ” he said.
” I need to see training and regeneration (before making a decision).”
