Manchester City had a €40 million (£34 million) bid for Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe rejected earlier in the summer according to L’Equipe. It would’ve represented a significant outlay for a 17-year-old, but other clubs also showed an interest in the Frenchman during the window too.
City have bought eight players this summer, building for the future with the signings of Leroy Sane, Marlos Moreno and Gabriel Jesus. However, they are all more proven than Mbappe, who only made his Monaco debut last season, playing 11 times in Ligue 1 and scoring once. However, he made just two starts due to his inexperience. Simultaneously he played another ten game with Monaco’s second-string, scoring two more.
Barcelona are also thought to be interested in Mbappe, although they’ll make a move for him in 12 months, ready for the 2017-18 season.
This summer, 17-year-old Mbappe has also triumphed in the Under-19 European Championships in Germany, scoring seven goals in just eight games as he helped France to the trophy.
