In the same fixture that stopped the five-game win streak last season, Pep’s City ran out 3-1 victors to West Ham on Sunday. Fernandinho scored in the league for the first time in almost exactly a year and Raheem Sterling got off the mark for the season with a brace, while Michail Antonio headed in at the back post to deny City their first clean sheet in the league.
The first half was one of the most impressive 45 minutes of football City have produced for years and it was the third time in the last four games that The Sky Blues have gone into the break 2-0 up. Sterling rounded off a lovely move from the left side and Fernandinho headed in a pin-point Kevin De Bruyne set-piece.
The resilient visitors came out the second half fighting and managed to pull one back, Antonio scoring a typical ‘Antonio-like’ header at the back post. City pressed and pressed for the third and at times it looked like we’d never find another goal. But, with minutes left, and just moments after David Silva struck the post, Sterling rounded Adrian and deftly finished from an acute angle to secure the win.
Here’s how I rated the players from today’s win.
