Former Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta is set to make the transition into management this summer by becoming Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The ex-Everton playmaker announced his retirement after being released from the aforementioned Arsenal at the end of the 2015/16 season.
Arteta has been linked with a coaching role at City in the past few months but Italian journalist Di Marzio is now reporting that the 34-year-old will be Guardiola’s number two for the 2016/17 campaign.

Having racked up 538 appearances in his career, including 358 in English football, Arteta will be able to offer his past experience in the Premier League to Guardiola.
Despite never playing for the Spanish national team, Arteta captained Arsenal and Everton during his career and earned plaudits for consistent performances.

Arteta is said to have idolised Guardiola throughout his playing career and is now poised to join forces with his hero in attempting to lead Manchester City to glory in his stint at the Etihad Stadium.
