Manchester City confirmed their first signing of the summer on Thursday, with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan officially putting pen to paper after weeks of speculation. The German midfielder becomes Pep Guardiola’s first signing in what is set to be a summer of drastic changes at the club following the disappointing 2015/16 campaign under Manuel Pellegrini.
But City signing someone from the Bundesliga is anything but a rarity. In fact in recent years they have done plenty of shopping in the German top tier; you only have to go the previous summer window where City signed some bloke called Kev from Wolfsburg. He turned out to be pretty good at football and looks set to continue his blistering form next season.
City are believed to have paid just over £20 million for Gundogan’s services, even though he is still sidelined with a knee injury. But there is every chance that he becomes a vital cog in this City side?
But how did other Bundesliga acquisitions get on at City? We take a look.
