Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Uruguayan side Deportivo Maldonado’s goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

Rulli, who has been on loan at Spanish outfit Real Sociedad for the past two seasons, is set to provide competition for City’s current number one goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Pep Guardiola had first targeted Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen but was put off by their £40m asking price and turned his attention to Rulli, who City scouts have been monitoring for the past three years.

Despite not yet winning an international cap, the Argentine shot-stopper has been called up to his country’s for the last few international breaks.
The 24-year-old is set to become the first signing of Pep Guardiola’s reign at the club and is likely to replace Willy Caballero, who is expected to move on in the summer.

The Daily Mail also reports that City remain in talks with Borussia Dortmund for midfielder maestro Ilkay Gundogan and have enquired about the possibility of signing French centre-back Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao.
