Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta is set to undergo ankle surgery that will see him sidelined for this summer’s Copa America, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Zabaleta’s season began with three months undergoing treatment on a knee injury and the Argentine’s future at the club has since been cast into doubt after falling behind Bacary Sagna in the pecking order at the Etihad.
The fans favourite was expected to leave the club in the summer alongside a host of City players, including the likes of Martin Demichelis, Willy Caballero, Yaya Toure, Wilfried Bony and Eliaquim Mangala.

However, reports suggest that Zabaleta will put any move on hold until he has fully recovered from the surgery.

Zabaleta is likely to join skipper Vincent Kompany in missing the start of next season, but there yet to be any official indication as to when the 31-year-old will be ready to return to action.
