Manchester City passed up the opportunity to sign Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in last summer’s transfer window.
Twitter: Was told City had a good look at Alderweireld last season but chose not to make a move. (@RobPollard_)
Manchester Evening News correspondent Rob Pollard revealed the news via his twitter account on Sunday night.
Alderweireld, then at Atletico Madrid, had played a season on loan with Southampton before Tottenham attained his services.

The 27-year-old joined Spurs in a £11.5m deal and is now an ever-present part of the Premier League’s best defence.
The Belgian centre-back, who can play as a right-sided full-back, has since scored four goals for Tottenham and kept an impressive 11 clean sheets in the league this season.
After rejecting Alderweireld, City turned their attentions to Nicolas Otamendi, who they eventually signed in a deal worth in the region of £28.5m – 2.5 times what the transfer fee was for Tottenham paid for the aforementioned Alderweireld.

Otamendi has yet to show his commanding nature in the Premier League and struggled for form in a less than impressive campaign for the Sky Blues.
