United to rival City for signing of Ogbonna
West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna, who only signed for the Hammers in the summer, is a target for Manchester United and Manchester City, according to The Times.
The France international has impressed under Slaven Bilic this term and has been an integral part of the team that currently sits 6th in the Premier League – just one point behind the Sky Blues.
Having only recently moved to the Boleyn Ground for a fee of £8m and signing a long-term deal in the process, West Ham are likely to demand a high price for the former Juventus centre-back.
However, both Manchester clubs may be willing to invest a substantial fee in solving their current defensive problems.
While Louis Van Gaal’s defence are prone to injuries, Manchester City fans are struggling to trust their back four without the presence of skipper Vincent Kompany.
Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala could be part of a summer exodus at the Etihad Stadium when Pep Guardiola takes charge and the Spaniard will be in the market for a replacement.
The returning Jason Denayer could fill one of the slots but several defenders, including the likes of John Stones and Aymeric Laporte, have been linked with filling the remaining one.
