City could be in for a shock move for Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Various publications, including Goal, have since reported the news that the 34-year old Spanish shot stopper is said to have maintained a close relationship with soon-to-be City manager Pep Guardiola, with a controversial move across the city said to be on the cards.
Valdes has endured limited playing time at United since joining the Reds from Barcelona in the summer, and has been shipped out on loan to Belgian side Standard Liege. His contract expires at the end of this season, making him available for a free transfer.
City are reportedly interested in offering the veteran keeper, who won the Champions League twice with Guardiola, a two-year contract, but it remains to be seen whether Valdes would be keen on making another move where he may play second-fiddle once again.
The news comes shortly after City’s link with yet another player, this time promising Swiss international Granit Xhaxa, who plays for German side Borussia Monchengladbach. The 23-year old has impressed for the Bundesliga outfit and has already faced City this season in the group stages of the Champions League.
He has been touted with a move away to England, with both City and Liverpool said to be interested in his signature, according to German media outlet Sport Bild. The youngster has admitted that it would be difficult to resist a move to the Premier League big guns: ‘It’s difficult to say no when Manchester City want you and you could play there.’
