City captain Vincent Kompany has given the Blues a huge boost after pictures were released of the Belgian returning to training this week.
The skipper has struggled with a calf injury this season which has seen City struggle defensively in his absence. He made a temporary return against Sunderland on Boxing Day last year but the problem returned after just nine minutes, and he has not made an appearance since.
Despite this being his only action during City’s last nineteen matches, Pellegrini is hopeful that this good news will enable the Belgian to make his comeback as early as a fortnight’s time.
A statement on City’s website read: “Vincent Kompany has given the City squad a welcome boost by returning to first-team training following a six-week lay-off,”
“The skipper’s been working hard to return to fitness since his last outing against Sunderland on Boxing Day, and Blues fans everywhere will be delighted to see him back in action alongside his team-mates at the City Football Academy.
“Manuel Pellegrini will reveal when the Belgian is likely to return during Friday’s press conference.”
The defender has seen specialists during his lay-off to try to get to the root of the problem and the news comes soon after it was announced that Pep Guardiola will be replacing Manuel Pellegrini at the end of this season, making the start of February a fairly successful one for the Blues.
