Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne says that the team’s performance against managerless Swansea City on Saturday does not concern him because the three points were the only thing that mattered.
City cruised through the first half at the Etihad and led at the break through Wilfried Bony’s header.
However, the second half was dominated by the away side, forcing City shotstopper Joe Hart into a number of saves. Swansea eventually got their reward for their perseverance when frontman Bafetimbi Gomis scored a 90th-minute equaliser, which looked to have earned them a point.
Yaya Toure had different ideas – his curling effort deflected off of substitute Kelechi Iheanacho and found the top corner with just seconds left to play.
After their mundane second half, Hart labelled City’s performance as ‘awful’ but it appears that De Bruyne disagrees.
The Belgian, who signed from Wolfsburg for a record transfer fee in the summer, was pleased with the three points and claimed that the way they won ‘doesn’t matter’.
It doesn’t matter. We won – that’s it. Obviously you also need to win your hard games but afterwards nobody will speak about it.
The 24-year-old went on to speak about the club’s festive fixtures and believes that recovering from the matches will be the toughest task as they face a sustained period of fixture congestion.
I think this can be an important week for us, mentally and physically, for us to come back, for the energy and everything to come back a little bit. It is important (to rest a bit) because you are busy all the time. If you have a day off you can refresh mentally. It is also important to go home, see the family, see all the other things you are not able to do when you are busy all the time. I think it is going to be good.
The Sky Blues have five away matches in their next six in all competitions. Trips to title challengers Arsenal and Leicester are separated with a home match against struggling Sunderland. The Citizens then face three consecutive away games, starting with a league encounter at Vicarage Road with Watford before cup matches against Everton and Norwich City.
