Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he will remain stubborn over the attacking ethos he has established in Manchester.
Known for his cavalier approach to attacking – the Chilean says that, despite criticism, he won’t be unstuck. “I like to play attacking football,” Pellegrini said indignantly.
“I like to score a lot of goals, but I prefer to win 4-0 than 4-2,” he said.
Having kept a mere two clean sheets from the last 19 outings, people have questioned the astronomical fee’s City paid for the likes of Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala, who haven’t always filled fans with confidence in the absence of Vincent Kompany – despite equating to around £70 million combined.
Having dealt with the European question, with a confident 4-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, Pellegrini has retrained his focus back to league matters, especially with the notoriously busy Christmas period around the corner.
Ahead of the packed schedule, Pellegrini wants to eliminate any memory, or replication, of poor performances the side have so often produced, such as those at Stoke and Spurs.
“We need to because we were too ugly,” said the 62-year-old of the recent drab showings. “You can lose against every team here in England, but you can’t lose so ugly,” he went on to say.
City face Swansea at the Etihad in a game which would see them go top of the table on goal difference should they to pick up the three points. Captain Vincent Kompany and Argentine Sergio Agüero remain sidelined with injury, whilst veteran Martin Demichelis makes a welcome return for the Blues.
