Manchester City forward Sergio Agüero looks set to miss this weekend’s clash with managerless Swansea as a heel injury keeps him out of action once more.
The Argentine striker has had a stop-start season thus far, with a number of injuries keeping the 27-year-old sidelined.
City fans were hitherto delighted to see Agüero back in action against Southampton after a long layout, only to be saddened to see the striker hobble off in the second half with a heel injury.
Having initially rubbished claims he would be out for a sustained period of time, three games missed and his absence against Swansea tomorrow would say otherwise. Agüero joins the likes of captain Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta on the treatment table for City.
However, Pellegrini spoke out about the Argentine’s injury and was reassuringly quoted as saying Agüero would feature in City’s top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal next weekend. Belgian Vincent Kompany is also expected to train next week in preparation for the Blues’ trip to the Emirates.
City’s dip in form prior to their midweek European success was largely put down to the absence of the two influential Citizens. City, defensively, have been widely accused of mediocrity. Furthermore, bar Tuesday’s victory against Mönchengladbach, the team have also struggled for goals; meaning the returns of both players will be eagerly anticipated by the City faithful.
Yet it isn’t all doom and gloom, as City will welcome the return of Agüero’s compatriot, Martin Demichelis, from a minor knock.
A win for City tomorrow would see the Blues go top of the table on goal difference ahead of Arsenal and Leicester City’s fixtures later on in the weekend.
