Fabian Delph has had a tumultuous last six months. A late U-turn saw him eventually join City for £8m after seemingly declaring his future remained in Birmingham, but since then, he has been ravaged by niggling injuries. This has prevented him from making his mark for the Blues until this past week or so. Add to this the abhorrent abuse he has endured from the Villa faithful, and it is easy to see just how turbulent it has been for the Bradford born midfielder.
However, Delph is happy in his own mind that he made the right move in the summer and is confident that it will result in success and silverware. Here’s what he has had to say about his brief City career when he spoke to Manchester Evening News this week.
“When you look around the dressing room and see the talented players we’ve got, you feel confident we can overcome whatever team we come up against.” He told Manchester Evening News.
He also commented on the last couple of weeks, which saw City draw 0-0 at his old Club Villa, before succumbing to defeats at home to revitalised Liverpool and away in Italy to Juventus.
“This is a confident bunch of lads, it’s just been a difficult couple of weeks… It’s just the trials and tribulations you go through. You need to react to defeats and I think we did that against Southampton.”
After helping City through to the Capital One Cup Semi Finals this week, Delph is keeping a level head and not losing focus on what lies ahead over the Christmas period.
“I don’t like to look too far ahead. I like to take each game as it comes and I am sure a lot of the lads are the same. We just try to pick up points and win games.”
Delph, and the rest of the squad’s primary focus will be on the trip to reconvene with former manager Mark Hughes and his Stoke City side this Saturday lunchtime.
