Ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has stated that his former club are the best team in the Premier League this season, according to ESPN.
The Italian manager, who is now enjoying his second season at Serie A side Inter, was in hold of the reins at the Blue side of Manchester between 2009 and 2013. During his spell at the Etihad stadium, the 50-year-old led his City side to their first Premier League title since 1968, before departing and making way for current boss Manuel Pellegrini to take over.
The Sky Blues are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League, level on points with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and a point ahead of Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City after 12 matches. Former boss Mancini is confident that the team will end up finishing the season in the same position as they are now and told www.sc.qa that he helped build the team’s core.
Manchester City are the best team so far this season and have a good chance to win the title. I am proud that the team, whose core I built, is doing well this year. But the Premier League is such a difficult championship in which you need to work really hard to win each and every game. City will face competition from Manchester United and Arsenal as it is now clear that Chelsea will find it difficult to finish in the top four.
In 2012, City lifted the Premier League trophy following a dramatic end-of-season performance against Queens Park Rangers, with key striker Sergio Aguero netting in the closing moments to seal Champions status for Mancini’s men and the Italian explained the difficulty of delivering the goods.
I helped to change the dynamics of the Manchester derby and it was very difficult to do that. City will face competition from Manchester United and Arsenal as it is now clear that Chelsea will find it difficult to finish in the top four.
