Manchester City were forced to settle for a point in Remi Garde’s first game as Aston Vila boss.
The Blues were dealt a blow early into the game when Wilfried Bony was forced off with a hamstring injury.
Despite a considerable drop in performance levels from the Sevilla game, City still created a number of clear-cut chances – with the likes of Sterling, De Bruyne and Fernando all guilty of squandering goalscoring opportunities.
Fabian Delph, fresh from his not so warm welcome from the Aston Villa fans, saw an effort roll inches wide as City were left frustrated.
