Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is poised to snub 10 offers – all of which are from Championship clubs – to take English starlet Patrick Roberts on loan, according to Tom Hopkinson of the Daily Mirror.
The 19-year-old joined the Premier League leaders in a deal that could eventually cost them £12m but, with the array of talent at the Etihad Stadium, the former Fulham man has struggled for consistent game-time – making just three substitute appearances.
Roberts stated that he was enjoying his time at the club and training with the first-team squad – suggesting that he would rather remain at the Sportscity campus to continue his development.
“I’m loving life at City at the moment, I get to train with first team players such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva every day. They are top, top people on and off the pitch, they are world class players and training with the first team has helped me improve and learn each day which you need to be doing. I am just really enjoying my football at the minute.”
Despite these comments, the Chilean boss was ready to temporarily offload the wide midfielder, before senior stars at the club advised him to keep Roberts because they may need him.
The England U20 international looks set to stay and battle for his place in Pellegrini’s illustrious squad.
