Manchester City midfielder James Horsfield has joined League One side Doncaster Rovers on a 28-day loan.
The 20-year-old signed a professional contract with the club in 2014 but is yet to feature for the first-team in a competitive fixture. He did, however, join Manchester City’s pre-season tour of America last summer, and played in both matches against Chelsea.
The former U16 skipper could make his debut for struggling Rovers against Swindon on Tuesday, with The Vikings currently sitting in the relegation zone of England’s third tier. The 2007 Football League Trophy winners have been managerless since they sacked former City striker Paul Dickov for his poor start to the season. Long-serving defender Rob Jones is currently in charge at the Keepmoat.
Despite not making a competitive appearance for Manchester City as of yet, Horsfield is adept to playing in multiple positions. Although he is widely recognised as a central midfielder, the youngster can also play at right-back.
The move to Doncaster is Horsfield’s first loan spell away from the Etihad since arriving in 2006.
