With the signing of Raheem Sterling imminent, City fans are eager to see what the youngster can bring to City.
Take a look at five of the youngster’s best goals.
Manchester City
This may have been the game that Manuel Pellegrini and Txiki Begiristain sat up and took notice of Sterling’s talents. His incredible pace and movement in behind destroyed the Blues backline and that can be seen in the goal that put Liverpool ahead at Anfield. Sterling was first to a Suarez pass and outwitted both Kompany and Hart before finishing with ease.
Bournemouth
I like this goal a lot. Liverpool fans remember it fondly because it had a 51 pass build-up, but I think this highlights what Sterling can do at City with the mercurial talents of Toure, Silva and co supplying him. He takes an active role here, leading the line but dropping deep and plays a key role in recycling possession before that opening arrives. He remains alert and nods home at the far post to cap of a flowing move.
Norwich City
Sterling was sensational in Liverpool’s remarkable run in 2013/14, before City pipped them to the title. One of his most outstanding displays came at Carrow Road, where be bagged two goals in a 3-2 win. Luis Suarez is known for his dismantling of Norwich but Sterling was on a similar level. His first goal was wonderful. The 20-year old drifted inside and hit a thunderous strike that left John Ruddy scrambling. It’s a clear example of just how effective the former QPR academy man can be.
Chelsea
City will be getting a player with immense speed on and off the ball and that’s something that was demonstrated to great effect in his goal in Liverpool’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg with Chelsea. As we have seen frequently, Sterling played as the leading man in attack and proved a constant menace for Chelsea. He spun Nemanja Matic, considered as the league’s top defensive midfielder, with ease before committing Cahill and finishing coolly. Blues will be hoping to see some of this individual brilliance in the flesh.
Newcastle
Last but certainly not least, is Sterling’s goal against Newcastle from last season. For this game, he played out on the left flank and had great joy up against Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat. His goal came from the sort of situation that he thrives in: A one-on-one battle with his opponent. Sterling was fed out wide and immediately moved infield, having the skill and composure to beat a couple of players before hitting a beautiful curling shot into the far corner.
