Here is my predicted Manchester City starting XI for the next season with the inclusion of some new signings that I’d like to see in the Premier League.
Formation: 4-3-3
GK: Joe Hart – No need to change the goalkeeper, Joe Hart is one of the best ‘keepers in the league and rarely puts a foot (or glove?) wrong.
RB: Pablo Zabaleta – Zabaleta is in my opinion the best right-back in the league. The Argentinian is a fantastic defender and is more than capable when he’s foraging down the right flank. He doesn’t look like he’s going to be displaced by fellow right back Bacary Sagna.
CB: Vincent Kompany – Granted, he did not have his best season last year but the captain is still a fantastic centre back. You don’t just become a poor player overnight and I certainly believe that Kompany will regain his confidence, cut out the errors and lead his side out next season.
CB: Benedikt Howedes – Howedes is an experienced, world cup winning defender who has a release clause of £10 to £15 million if certain reports are to be believed. He played every minute of the world cup for Germany and can play all across the back four.
LB: Aleksandar Kolarov – I don’t think City should be looking to upgrade in the left back department as they have the powerful Kolarov and decent enough cover in Gael Clichy. Kolarov’s determination to get forward and his sharp shooting is proving useful for City.
CDM: Fernandinho – The Brazilian is one of my favourite players for City. His energy and desire to cover as much ground as possible is admirable. He could provide the license for his midfield partner Yaya to venture forward.
CDM: Yaya Toure – There has been a lot of talk about him leaving City this summer and going back to Inter to be reunited with Roberto Mancini but I can’t see that happening myself. Like Kompany, Toure did have a great impact for City last season but I’m sure he’ll recapture his form in time for next season.
RW: Kevin De Bruyne – The former Chelsea player is having a great time in Germany with Wolfsburg. He recently equalled the record for the most assists in one season and is attracting interest from all around Europe. He may be interested in a return to the Premier League to settle unfinished business.
CAM: Miralem Pjanic – Pjanic is a wonderful little player with an eye for a goal and the ability to unlock most defences. Securing the services of this player would be a major coup for City and a welcome addition for Premier League fans.
LW: David Silva – Silva is one of the first names on the team sheet every week, a player that can create something out of nothing.
ST: Sergio Aguero – The best striker in the league (after Suarez’s departure) deservedly won the Barclays Golden Boot by five clear goals. Hopefully City are not tempted by any bids from Real Madrid.
Here’s what the team looks like in full…
