Sky Sources: Newcastle to talk to Vieira

Sky Sources are reporting that Newcastle United will talk to Patrick Vieira about him becoming their new manager ahead of the 2015-16 season. The Magpies are currently on the lookout for a new boss with John Carver set to depart from his current role as head coach at St James’ Park following Newcastle just about surviving relegation from the Premier League.

Vieira has gained plaudits with City’s second team over the past couple of years, and has guided them to the latter stages of several competitions since he started the role in 2013. Many had been tipping him to become the first-team manager in the foreseeable future – with some even suggesting he could take over from Pellegrini this summer, although that never materialised and it now looks like the Chilean will remain in his role.

Regardless, it was still likely that Vieira was being lined up for the job at some point soon, although if there were no guarantees – and a rumour of a City move for Pep Guardiola in 2016 could further scupper his chances of getting a first-team job at City soon – then he may well look elsewhere for a first-team management role.

And with Newcastle, Vieira would have a club with a lot of potential. The Magpies are not a small club, and have money to spend if Mike Ashley is willing to do that; and he may have to after the season Newcastle have had. There are no assurances that Vieira would be a success in what would be his first job managing the first-team of a club – and there may be some backlash given that his only job so far has been with City’s EDS team – but if he is indeed the manager we all expected him to be, then he could do fantastically well at Newcaslte.
