Hart: 8 – An excellent performance from the stand-in skipper and a welcomed clean sheet earned in the process. City’s no.1 produced a string of crucial saves to keep out Spurs, including a fine stop to deny Mason. He commanded his goal admirably. Moreover, his distribution was utterly brilliant in setting up the goal that proved to be the difference.
Zabaleta: 6 –
A tough game for Zabaleta against a side packed with pace, power and energy. Chadli caused him plenty of problems to begin with but as City grew into the game, so did he. Involved in a great tussle with Rose on the right flank and helped City to a big win.
Demichelis: 6 –
Like his Argentine compatriot, Demichelis struggled against a lively Spurs outfit in the opening exchanges but his reading of the game and composure always comes in handy. Very nearly gifted Kane with a goal in the second half when he misjudged the flight of the ball. Deserves credit for how he dealt with one of this season’s success stories.
Mangala: 7 –
A nervy, frantic opening for Mangala but the Frenchman is now settling into a more accomplished defender. He may not have an orthodox way of doing things but his unparalled physicality, strength and composure was vital in City shutting out Spurs.
Kolarov: 8 –
A really impressive showing from the Serbian who came up with two outstanding blocks to prevent a Tottenham goal. Added impetus in attack with a couple of incredible crosses into dangerous territory. More like the attacking weapon we were accustomed to seeing last season.
Fernando: 6 –
A strange game for Fernando, who wasn’t actually involved that much. Nevertheless, he made no notable errors or mistakes and put in a commendable shift for the team.
Fernandinho: 8 –
The Brazilian has quickly emerged as a fan favourite and his display in this game justifies why City supporters have taken to him so well. Powered his way through a congested midfield with skill and aggression. Very much an assured performance, should have had a goal to his name.
Milner: 6 –
Not Milner’s most complete performance in a Blue shirt. He did however chip in with his usual industry and work-rate, and combined effectively with Zabaleta on the right. Had an interesting altercation with a corner flag.
Lampard: 6 –
More solid than spectacular from Lampard, who brought a bit of calmness in central areas. Linked up well with those around him. Did what he could against a youthful team.
Silva: 9 –
Exceptional in all senses. A display full of elegance was accompanied with a gritty, tireless display off the ball. Threaded through Aguero with a wonderful pass for the goal and was the orchestrator for City attacks. Rightly praised by Thierry Henry after the match.
Aguero: 9 –
In danger of becoming isolated up top on his own, but led the line with great distinction and was a pest throughout the game. Showed great movement and a neat finish for his goal. A couple of unbelievable movements in attack, matched by a great work-ethic. His response to not making the shortlist for the Player of the Year award has been immense.
Subs:
Nasri: –
Lasted merely seconds!
Bony: 6 –
Held the ball up impressively.
Boyata: 6 –
A rare sighting but helped deal with Spurs’ late onslaught.
