Reports: Marseille interested in Vieira

City’s alleged ‘plan’ to install Patrick Vieira as the next long-term manager of the club could be falling apart, with the EDS manager reportedly a target for Marseille of Ligue 1 according to The Telegraph, with the French side set to be on the hunt for a new boss of Marcelo Bielsa departs from the club in the summer.

Many have expected for quite some time that Vieira would be the next long-term option for City in the dugout, hence why he’s been given a position with the Elite Development Squad in the last couple of years, a position for which he has garnered praise from a large amount of City fans. The success with the second team led to him being linked with taking over the senior side this summer, were Pellegrini to leave for one reason or another. Failing that, many still expected the former midfielder would be the City gaffer at some point in the not-so-distant future.

However, it could now seem that the Blues’ faithful won’t get to see the EDS manager in charge of the first team, with his name reportedly on a shortlist for Marseille’s next manager. Bielsa, who joined Marseille last summer, enjoyed a superb start to the Ligue 1 season but since then have suffered a decline, which has led to questions over Bielsa’s future. Should he depart, Vieira could be high up on the list of potential replacements, with the 38-year-old being close to qualifying to manage at first-team level after two years of hard work.
