# Semenyo ruled out for eight weeks in major Man City injury blow

[**Man City**](https://readmancity.com/) **will be without Antoine Semenyo for around eight weeks after Enzo Maresca confirmed the extent of the forward’s injury ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with AEK Athens.**

Semenyo emerged as the main fitness concern following Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich, when he was seen struggling after the final whistle. City had also been left with concerns over Erling Haaland, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly during a costly afternoon despite maintaining their perfect start to the league season.

Maresca has now delivered a much clearer picture of his squad at his pre-match press conference, with positive news on the other four players but a significant setback for Semenyo.

“The rest are more or less all OK,” Maresca said when discussing the fitness of Kovacic, Nunes, Haaland and O’Reilly, before confirming that Semenyo is expected to be out for eight weeks.

## Antoine Semenyo injury confirmed

It represents a considerable blow given Semenyo’s influence during the opening weeks of Maresca’s reign.

The Ghana international has started six of City’s opening seven Premier League matches, scoring twice and providing three assists. He has quickly established himself as an important part of the attack following his summer arrival and had featured regularly during City’s perfect start to the league campaign.

An absence of around eight weeks would see Semenyo miss a significant run of fixtures across the Premier League and Champions League, although the progress of his rehabilitation will ultimately determine when he is ready to return.

There was considerably better news elsewhere for Maresca. Haaland had sparked concern after limping away following the Ipswich victory, having scored twice, while Kovacic and Nunes were also forced off during the game and O’Reilly had been dealing with a back problem.

Maresca’s latest assessment suggests those issues are not expected to result in similarly lengthy absences.

City host AEK at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to respond to last week’s 4-2 Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain, before travelling to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

The availability of Haaland and the other recent injury concerns provides a boost ahead of that run, but losing Semenyo for an extended period leaves Maresca without one of his most productive attacking players.
