Enzo Maresca’s first pre-season in charge at City comes with one significant fitness concern already on the books.
This page will be updated as City’s Asia tour and remaining friendlies progress.

Rodri — central midfield
Status: Sidelined, surgery
Rodri underwent surgery on a back problem picked up around the World Cup. Maresca confirmed this in his first press conference as manager. He’ll need rest and recovery afterwards and will miss the entirety of City’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Maresca has indicated he’s expected back in training at the City Football Academy in the week before the FA Community Shield against Arsenal on 16 August. No firm return date for competitive action has been given.
His club contract situation remains unresolved amid Real Madrid interest, which adds context to the timeline without changing the medical facts.
Jack Grealish — winger (returned from loan)
Status: Building fitness
Grealish was among City’s fringe players reporting for day-one training. His involvement is likely to be limited, depending on his recovery from the foot injury that cut short his loan spell at Everton.
He’s reported to be progressing toward full fitness. Any news on his proposed move to Everton can be followed on our live transfer tracker.
Context: several World Cup finalists — Rodri, Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland, Elliot Anderson, Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and James Trafford among them — have been given extended rest. They won’t feature on the Asia tour.
That’s all about workload management rather than injury, so it’s noted here for context rather than tracked as a fitness concern.
Squad news moves quickly in pre-season — check back as City continue their tour with fixtures against Inter Milan, a K-League All-Stars selection and Atletico Madrid before the Premier League opener.
