Phil Foden has signed a new four-year contract with City, extending his stay at the Etihad until 2030 with the option of a further year, ending speculation over his long-term future following a difficult couple of seasons.
The 26-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire in 2027, spoke warmly about working under Enzo Maresca again, who returns to the City dugout after his spell as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the treble-winning 2022-23 season.
“So excited! I’ve had Enzo before in the Treble season, he was brilliant,” Foden said, pointing to Maresca’s attention to detail and one-on-one coaching sessions as reasons his own game improved under him. Yahoo Sports
On committing his future to the club, Foden was equally direct: “Committing my future to City means everything to me,” he said, reflecting on 20 years at the club since joining the academy aged nine.
Director of football Hugo Viana added his own praise for the academy graduate, saying everyone at Manchester City is incredibly proud of Phil.
The deal draws a line under recent reports linking Foden with a move away, including interest from Galatasaray, after a season in which he started just two Premier League games from March onwards and was substituted early in the FA Cup final.
He’ll now be expected to rediscover his best form under Maresca as City begin their pre-season tour of Asia.
