# Today’s Man City news round-up & talking points — Friday 24th July

**It’s been a Man City news day dominated by Enzo Maresca’s first presser as City manager, in which he covered a lot of ground and, among other stuff, gave updates on the state of play with Rodri and Jack Grealish.**

Enzo Maresca took his first press conference as City manager today, and it was Rodri who dominated. [Maresca confirmed surgery will take place on Monday](https://readmancity.com/maresca-rodri-surgery-monday-man-city-press-conference/), with the midfielder needing rest before returning to the squad.

He also [gave a non-committal answer on Jack Grealish’s future](https://readmancity.com/everton-jack-grealish-maresca-loan-comments/), leaving Everton’s hopes of a second loan unresolved, and [declined to revisit his acrimonious Chelsea exit](https://readmancity.com/maresca-chelsea-exit-man-city-press-conference/) when asked directly.

On the transfer front, [City’s interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez](https://readmancity.com/man-city-enzo-fernandez-world-cup-controversy-transfer/) resurfaced this week, with his World Cup final red card adding a layer of complication to any reunion with Maresca.

Elsewhere, [Elliot Anderson wasted no time needling Manchester United](https://readmancity.com/elliot-anderson-man-city-kings-of-manchester/) in his first interview since his £116m move, and we looked ahead to [City’s pre-season schedule and when the World Cup contingent are expected back](https://readmancity.com/man-city-preseason-2026-fixtures-world-cup-returns/).

For anyone missing their daily dose of nostalgia, [15 years to the day since Balotelli’s infamous backheel](https://readmancity.com/man-city-balotelli-backheel-mancini-la-galaxy-anniversary/) got Roberto Mancini hooked off in seconds.

As for this weekend, no domestic friendlies are planned for City, with the players expected to train in-house before setting off for [Asia next week](https://www.mancity.com/asiatour2026).
