# Conflicting reports emerge over Rodri summer surgery and Maresca timeline

**City’s preparations for Enzo Maresca’s first season are clouded by conflicting reports over how much football Rodri will miss this summer.**

The Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan [reported in late June](https://www.goal.com/en/lists/man-city-rodri-surgery-season-injury-coach-enzo-maresca/bltd8cc10dba05e84e8) that Rodri would need surgery on an unspecified injury once Spain’s World Cup run ended. That report suggested he would miss City’s pre-season and the start of the Premier League campaign.

Spanish outlet La Razón has since given a different account. It describes the procedure as a minor operation on Rodri’s back — “in and out in under 15 minutes” — with no club football expected to be missed at all.

Neither the [Man City](https://readmancity.com/) nor Rodri’s camp have confirmed details publicly.

The uncertainty lands at a tricky moment for Rodri’s future. His contract runs to June 2027, and Real Madrid’s interest has resurfaced after his form for Spain at the World Cup.

City have [tabled an improved contract offer](https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/man-city-awaiting-rodri-contract-184000508.html), though Rodri has previously spoken openly about the pull of a return to Spain.

His fitness record adds weight to any injury news.

Since [tearing his ACL against Arsenal in September 2024](https://www.si.com/soccer/manchester-city-rodri-acl-injury-out-for-season-pep-guardiola), Rodri has dealt with recurring groin and hamstring problems. Missing 51 games that season reshaped City’s title challenge, and any fresh setback — however small — will be watched closely at the Etihad.
