## Tijjani Reijnders linked with Atletico Madrid

According to [Radio Marca](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW4RLBMHgw0), Atletico Madrid could offer Reijnders an escape from his minimalistic role at Man City.

The La Liga outfit are considering the possibility of a move, and are in touch with City to discover more information.

Atletico are aware that it will not be easy to complete a deal, with the £46m midfielder having four years remaining on his contract.

However, if Enzo Maresca decides to regularly bench Reijnders as Guardiola has done, this would give Diego Simeone’s team an advantage.

## Pep Guardiola chose Kalvin Phillips over Declan Rice

According to [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/05/27/how-declan-rice-became-best-in-the-world-arsenal/), Guardiola was deciding whether to sign Kalvin Phillips or Declan Rice in the summer of 2022.

In the end, he went for Phillips, believing the now 30-year-old to have a better passing range, and scanning abilities.

Guardiola recognised his mistake a year later, as Man City made an effort to beat Arsenal to secure Rice’s signature, but they were unsuccessful.

Despite this, there is interest from other clubs. Arsenal have joined the race for the 25-year-old, although Sandro Tonali is viewed as the greater priority.

Additionally, a ‘serious approach’ is expected from Real Madrid, setting up a potential £110m agreement between Los Blancos and the Blues.

## Pep Guardiola has ‘never’ been friends with his players

According to the manager himself, he would ‘love’ to be friends with his players, but it is simply not possible.

After all, he is forced to make decisions which means there are always some members of his squad missing out.

Guardiola told [Man City’s official website](https://www.mancity.com/citytv/mens/pep-guardiola-noel-gallagher-the-final-interview-63915582): “I’ve never been best friends with a player. Never, ever. I’d love to be their friends, I’d love it – but I can’t!

“I tell you that you don’t play! They say, ‘I want to play’, and I don’t allow you. How can you be friends? It’s impossible. You have to take distance.”
